How the pricing works
Lemon Squeezy has no plan tiers and no monthly fee. As merchant of record it takes one transaction fee, and a few add-ons apply only where they are relevant.
5% + 50c per transaction

Payouts run twice a month (on the 1st and 15th) after a 13-day hold, with a $50 minimum. US bank payouts are free; non-US bank payouts cost 1%. A chargeback costs the refund minus the platform fee, plus a $15 dispute fee.

What works
- As merchant of record, Lemon Squeezy takes the whole sales-tax and VAT job off your plate. It becomes the legal seller, then collects and remits tax across 130-plus countries, so a global digital business never registers or files any of it.
- Nothing to pay until you sell. There is no monthly fee and no card required to start, so you can build a store, wire up subscriptions and license keys, and only pay the 5% + 50c once a sale actually happens.
- It is fast to launch and pleasant to build on. Sellers describe an afternoon setup, a clean checkout, and a tidy REST API with reliable webhooks, which is why indie SaaS founders reach for it instead of standing up their own billing and tax stack.
- It is no longer a startup you are betting on. Stripe acquired Lemon Squeezy in July 2024, so the payments infrastructure underneath it is proven at scale, and your buyers see a checkout they recognise.
What to watch
- Momentum has cooled since the acquisition. With the team building Stripe's own merchant-of-record product, users report slower support and fewer updates through 2025. The platform still runs and still gets paid out, but do not expect the fast roadmap it had before.
- Account review and payouts are the loudest long-term complaint. Sellers describe an opaque store-approval process, held or rejected accounts, and payout verification friction, sometimes with slow support. This matters most before you have a track record, so run a real transaction and request a payout before you move serious volume.
- Merchant of record does not make chargebacks disappear. A disputed sale still costs you the refund minus the platform fee, plus a $15 dispute fee off your next payout, and payouts arrive twice a month after a 13-day hold with a $50 minimum, so plan cash flow around that rather than a daily deposit.
- It is not a paid-traffic funnel. There is no same-URL split testing, no routing across merchant accounts, and the checkout is a hosted no-code overlay rather than a funnel you tune, so a media buyer running cold traffic to an offer will hit its limits fast. It is also digital-goods only, which rules out physical products outright.
