Affiliate commissions

Some of the links to the tools we cover are affiliate links. If you click one and go on to buy, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Every page that carries such a link shows a disclosure above the first one.

What that does not buy

It does not buy a ranking position, a rating, a verdict, or the softening of a drawback. The order tools appear in is decided by our methodology before commercial terms are ever considered. We also link tools we do not earn from when they are the right answer, and we leave the commission on the table rather than move a worse tool up.

Why the negatives stay

Every tool we recommend, including the ones we earn the most from, carries at least one honest drawback. A recommendation with no stated cost is an advertisement. Keeping the negatives is the whole point.
