How Gumroad's pricing works
Gumroad has no plan tiers and no monthly fee. You pay a percentage of each sale, and the percentage depends on how the buyer reached you.
10% + 50c per direct sale
On sales through your own profile or a link you share. Card processing of 2.9% + 30c is charged on top, so the real cost is about 12.9% + 80c.
30% per Discover sale
On buyers Gumroad brings you through its own Discover marketplace. Processing is included in this rate.

- Past $20,000 in paid sales in a calendar month, new direct sales that month drop to 5% + 50c, resetting on the 1st.
- As merchant of record since January 2025, Gumroad collects and remits your sales tax and VAT worldwide.
Is it worth the money?
What works
- Nothing to pay until you sell. There is no monthly fee and no setup cost, so you can list a product and find out whether it sells for free. First-time sellers routinely report making a sale within minutes of signing up.
- It handles your sales tax. As merchant of record since January 2025, Gumroad registers, collects and remits sales tax and VAT worldwide, so a solo creator never has to file any of it.
- One tool for the whole job. A hosted storefront or an embeddable buy button, memberships and subscriptions, pay-what-you-want pricing, license keys, an affiliate program and email broadcasts are all built in, and payouts land weekly.
- It is proven and unusually transparent. Gumroad has run since 2011, publishes its board meetings, and open-sourced its code, which is more daylight than most platforms that hold your money offer.
What to watch
- The fee is steep and permanent. Direct sales cost 10% + $0.50, and that is before card processing of 2.9% + $0.30, so a real figure near 13%. On low-ticket products that is a heavy cut, and it is the top reason long-term sellers move to lower-fee storefronts. It only eases once monthly sales pass $20,000.
- Payouts need watching. There is a minimum payout balance, payouts can pause while an account is under review, and some sellers report balances held with little explanation. Read the payout rules before you rely on the cash flow.
- Its rules exclude much of this audience. Gumroad bans physical goods outright, and its prohibited list rules out financial instruments, credit repair, gambling and adult content, so many physical-product, supplement and business-opportunity sellers cannot use it at all.
- It is not built for paid-traffic funnels. No same-URL split testing, no multi-processor routing, and a fixed, plain product page mean a media buyer cannot tune the checkout the way paid campaigns demand.
